چکیده

The patient was treated with oxytetracycline and metronidazole (there was no history of recent use of either ampicillin or augmentin). The infected ulcer improved and six days later the Enterobacter cloacae could no longer be isolated. The strain was sensitive in vitro to tetracycline. This case shows that an augmentinresistant organism can be sensitive to ampicillin. Isolates should therefore be tested against both antibacterial agents. We believe this to be the first reported isolation of an ampicillinsensitive, augment in-resistant organism. Enterobacter cloacae, however, is not a common pathogen and this is likely to be a rare phenomenon. Public Health Laboratory, St Mary’s General Hospital, Portsmouth J. CRUMP S. CANSDALE

A Description of Reference Ranges for Organic Acids in Urine Samples from A Pediatric Population in Iran

Background: Organic acids refer to a family of compounds that are intermediates in a variety of metabolic pathways. Many organic acids are present in urine from clinically normal individuals. Elevated levels of urine organic acids cause to the organic acidurias, disorders in which some metabolic pathways in organic acid metabolism are blocked. The present work identified major and minor urinary...

The Effect of Amino Acid, Carbohydrate, and Lipid Metabolism Disorders on Eyes

Inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) are a class of genetic disorders. Each metabolic disorder may have different forms with different age of onset, clinical manifestations, severity, and even type of inheritance. Ideally, a group of different specialists, including ophthalmologists, pediatricians, biochemists, and medical geneticists are needed for the final diagnosis and management of IMDs. B...

2,4-Dienoyl-coenzyme A reductase deficiency: a possible new disorder of fatty acid oxidation.

Several inherited disorders of fatty acid beta-oxidation have been described that relate mainly to saturated precursors. This study is the first report of an enzyme defect related only to unsaturated fatty acid oxidation and provides the first in vivo evidence that fat oxidation in humans proceeds by the reductase-dependent pathway. The patient was a black female, presenting in the neonatal per...
